Why Gut Health Matters
Did you know that most illnesses start in the gut? It’s because what we put in our bodies either keep us healthy or make us unwell.
For a long time, my stomach was in shambles. I was either constantly in the bathroom, dealing with heart burn, or just having stomach pain. Having been finally diagnosed with fibromyalgia, my holistic doctor got me on a path to healing. My fibro symptoms started going away and my stomach started healing.
Now it’s my turn to help you start to feel better. So in this blog I’m going to go over:
The Role of a Healthy Gut
The Signs of an Unhealthy Gut
Ways You Can Begin Healing Your Gut
Let’s jump on in!
The Role of a Healthy Gut. We pretty much all know that during digestion, foods are gradually broken down as they make their way down through the GI tract. There’s a variety of good bacteria that determines the level to which the nutrients from the food, as well as irritants, can enter into the blood stream.
When you have a healthy gut with a variety of good bacteria, it provides a strong barrier in the intestines that allow nutrients to pass through. But it prevents, or heavily limits, the toxins, chemicals, and all the bad stuff from getting into the rest of the body.
In this FREE guide, there are some tips to get you started healing your gut and changing your lifestyle into a healthier and happier one.
2. The Signs of an Unhealthy Gut. Usually when we think of an unhealthy gut we think of stomach issues-bloating, gas, constipation, diarrhea, IBS, heart burn, indigestion, colitis, and food intolerances. Which those are symptoms of an unhealthy gut. However, there are some symptoms you may not be aware of being a sign of an unhealthy gut.
Skin issues like acne, eczema, and rosacea
Sleep issues such as fatigue, difficulty going or staying asleep
Mood issues including high stress, low mood, anxiety or depression
Auto immune issues like thyroid, rheumatoid arthritis, and Type 1 diabetes
Frequent colds
Weight issues
Migraines
Mental fog
Make sure to always check with your doctor to make sure there’s not an underlying issue, but these can be treated with just the food we eat and lifestyle we live. And if they don’t completely go away, they will definitely be significantly reduced.
Within 12 weeks of changing my diet and lifestyle, my fibromyalgia symptoms went away and my stomach no longer hurt.
3. How You Can Start Healing Your Gut. In one word? Diet.
A diet rich in the nutrients that will build that barrier will heal your gut and relieve you of the symptoms you are having. Here’s how you can get started:
Lemon water. Not only staying hydrated with plenty of water and herbal teas, adding lemon to your water (especially in the morning) will stimulate the digestive enzymes.
Add fiber rich food. Load up on fruits, veggies, whole grains, and nuts to support regular bowel movements and feed the good bacteria your gut needs. To learn more about what foods you need to incorporate on a daily basis, click here to download my FREE guide. It includes a list of the healthy foods and serving sizes.
Include fermented food (foods with probiotics) like yogurt, kefir, and sauerkraut to promote gut balance and a healthy immune system.
Stress management. Chronic stress impacts all aspects of our health. Learning a stress management skill like breathing techniques, journaling, or mediation will help keep your level of stress low.
Holistic Lifestyle. A holistic lifestyle acknowledges that the body, mind, and spirit are connected and all need to be addressed in order for wellness to happen. It addresses needs and health issues through natural means. This type of lifestyle will rid your body of toxins and start healing your entire being-body, mind, and spirit.
Your gut is the key to your health. I lived with stomach issues for a long time. I’m so glad I learned the importance of food and what I put in my body can either help me stay healthy and symptom free, or cause a ton of issues and unwanted symptoms.
Now I’m taking what I’ve learned by experience and certification and passing it along to you. I want you to live the healthy and happy life you’ve been longing for.
